Practical Uses of AI for Project Leadership Meeting Recap

On May 20 the PMI Central Indiana Chapter gathered in E-gineering Inc.’s beautiful annex to hear Robert Cochrane and Mark Mastroianni speak on Practical Uses of AI for Project Leadership. Our VP of Strategic Partnerships and Marketing Carol Baker led us through all the upcoming events and PMI happenings.

The BEST Point

PM's will become MORE impactful in the age of AI, not less. We know when to use the AI Agent and when to use the human SME. We know when/how/why to apply pressure to a team and when/how/why to apply support. We will continue to manage the stakeholder relationships.

The “Say It Louder and Again” Points

We've all noticed the mad clamor for organizations to become AI Enabled or provide AI Enabling for those wanting to be AI Enabled. We’re hearing stories that indicate MANY organization could benefit from some of the points made at the event that resonated.

  1. Data Governance should still exist- Keep private data private
  2. Put AI Governance policies in place BEFORE you leverage the tool. One of the tenants of a good rollout is we have the policies & procedures not only in existence, but also have trained all the users before we go live.
  3. DON'T Trust. Verify: “2 Humans Validate Every AI Deliverable”

New Things Learned and Dig Deeper

  1. Rapid Fire Context Switching: An “aha” moment that context switching can be beneficial/useful instead of a drain, IF you cluster all your context switching at once. One example used was agile ceremonies doing this naturally. Maybe try it with small projects that need smaller clusters of work?
  2. Book recommendation: Team Topologies: Organizing Business and Technology Teams for Fast Flow By Skelton/Pais.

If you attended this chapter event in-person or virtually, what stuck in your brain on the way home?

If you didn't attend last night, we hope to see you at an event soon!
