Building the White River District: Collaboration, Complexity, and Civic Impact
Panel Discussion on Stakeholder Alignment and Scheduling in the White River District Innovation
The White River District Innovation Project is one of Indianapolis’ most ambitious redevelopment efforts—transforming the former GM stamping plant site into a vibrant, connected, and future-ready district.
Spanning 91 acres on the city’s west side, this city-led initiative brings together the City of Indianapolis, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), and Elanco to deliver critical infrastructure, including new roadways, utilities, a transformative bridge connection to Kentucky Avenue, and integration with the Indianapolis Cultural Trail expansion.
This panel will explore what it takes to manage a complex, multi-stakeholder urban redevelopment of this scale. Panelists will discuss stakeholder engagement strategies, scheduling and coordination across public and private partners, and the unexpected challenges—and surprises—that shaped the project along the way.
Attendees will gain practical insights into large-scale infrastructure delivery, cross-sector collaboration, and the project management lessons behind one of Indianapolis’ most significant redevelopment efforts.
